Retail thefts resulted in a $30-$37 billion dollar loss to the economy. This is a 6% increase from the previous year. Car theft is also at a high resulting in 1.5 million cars stolen a year. There were over 2 million burglaries committed last year. Theft continues to be a growing concern for the United States who surpasses other countries year after year in the percent per capita. More than 70% of all crimes committed are theft related. It is likely that most people will face having their vehicle, money, or personal possessions stolen from them at some point in their lives.
